The following are some resources which contain useful information about localisation and the localisation industry.

Shadow Automation Software Designed with localisation and in particular the need for SimShip in mind, Brandt Technologies' Shadow™ testing suite allows manual & automated testing of multiple operating systems simultaneously. Control many systems (or VMware machines) with one keyboard and mouse. Used for multiple browser testing or localization SimShip testing. Shadow™ uses image-based technology to "see", meaning it can also test software with non standard GUIs, emulators, remote applications and Flash applications. A free evaluation version of Shadow™ is available on the Brandt Technologies site.
Brandt paper to the Localisation Research Centre

On Sept 27th 2007, Brandt presented a paper on Shadow™ to the LRC.
The paper entitled "An alternative approach to software testing to enable SimShip for the localisation market, using Shadow™" was delivered at the LRC Conference, at European Foundation, Dublin.

ForeignDesk logo

ForeignDesk, an integrated translation environment originally created in 1995, has been made available to the open source development community. ForeignDesk has a large user base and supports over 150 file formats, including file types from Microsoft's .NET Framework. Brandt are currently expanding the ForeignDesk source code for extra functionality.

The Localisation Research Centre (LRC) provides an information service to the industry; conducts research and development in localisation and related areas, such as language engineering, and organises regular conferences and meetings. The Centre's key activities include research and development and the evaluation of localisation tools, the establishment of a localisation tools library, consultancy services, education and training and the publication of a regular Newsletter.

LISA offers a wide array of services, including workshops, training, industry surveys, and a monthly newsletter. LISA also offers a large collection of online resources such as special reports and white papers.


GALA logo The Globalization and Localization Association (GALA) is a fully representative, non-profit, international industry association for the translation, internationalization, localization, and globalization industry. The association gives members a common forum to discuss issues, create innovative solutions, promote the industry, and present a joint - and more powerful - voice within the industry and to the outside community.
